Japanese Lunch Culture

In Japan, there is a culture of "bento", which refers to food that is put into a specialized container and carried around for eating outside. This can include lunches brought to school or work, as well as food for picnics or cherry blossom viewing. While it is also possible to buy bento from convenience stores or supermarkets to eat at home, I have fond memories of my mother preparing homemade bentos for me when I was a student.
When I was in high school, my mother woke up early every morning to make my bento box.
I would often daydream about my lunch during boring classes.
My mother always made colorful bento boxes that I took for granted at the time.
It wasn't until I became an adult that I fully appreciated the love and care that went into making those lunches.
The pink color represents memories of lunches shared with loved ones,
and the yellow color was inspired by the encouragement provided by my bento box during lonely lunches at cram school.
I designed the colors of the bento box based on memories of fun lunch times with friends - the aqua blue color reminds me of those happy moments.
All of the designs feature vegetables,
but my favorite was always the octopus-shaped wiener.
Thank you, Mom, for all the love you put into each bento box.
